
Principal Bassoon Vacancy
We are currently inviting applications for the position of Principal Bassoon with the Ealing Symphony Orchestra.
This is a rewarding opportunity to join a friendly, energetic orchestra with a reputation for performing adventurous and challenging programmes. We’re looking for a bassoonist who enjoys collaborative music-making and is keen to take on a leading role within the ensemble.
This is a voluntary position within our member-run orchestra, with an annual subscription per player of £200 (reviewed annually).
What We Offer
A welcoming and committed group of musicians.
Five to six performances per season, usually at St Barnabas Church, W5 1QG featuring ambitious and varied repertoire played to a large, enthusiastic audience.
Weekly, Thursday evening rehearsals at Ealing Green Church, W5 5QT, from 7:35pm to 10:10pm, with an average of six rehearsals per concert.
Work with leading soloists and composers, including new commissions and neglected repertoire.
An active social life, including foreign tours and an annual weekend ‘jaunt’.
Who We’re Looking for
A confident, expressive bassoonist with strong ensemble and sight-reading skills.
Comfortable taking on principal responsibilities and solo passages.
Enthusiastic about rehearsing and performing with a dedicated amateur orchestra.

The Audition Process
We plan to select candidates to take part in a brief audition, after which a short list will be drawn up. Those on the short list will be invited to take part in one of this season’s concerts, including all rehearsals.
