String Vacancies

There are no auditions for strings; instead you will be asked to sit with the section principal during a rehearsal as part of the evaluation process. We have no specific intake period, you can apply at any time of year.

Members are expected to attend the majority (>75%) of rehearsals for a given concert.

Other Vacancies

There are currently no vacancies in the wind and brass. Contact us to go on our dep list, or hear about when we do have a vacancy.

Hires

We usually hire in a harpist, percussion, keyboards, and other specialist instruments on-the-day as required, but if you are a student or amateur looking for playing experience at the weekly rehearsals, we would be happy to hear from you.

Where and When

We rehearse on Thursday evenings from 7.35pm, setting up from 7.20pm, at Ealing Green Church, W5 5QT. On concert days we rehearse in the afternoon.

The nearest stations are Ealing Broadway (Central, District, main lines) and South Ealing (Piccadilly). The 65 stops close by and there are many buses along Uxbridge Road, just a short walk away.

Parking is available on most streets from 7.30pm, but check signs as there are some restricted sections. There is no parking at the church itself; space permitting you can pull in temporarily to drop off bulky instruments then park elsewhere.

Social Scene

A large contingent seems to find their way to the King’s Arms in The Grove after rehearsals, we have a Christmas Party, and usually a Summer Social.

We have a ‘Jaunt’ away from home most years, usually around a bank holiday weekend, to play informally and have fun outside the city. We also go abroad occasionally. Extra concerts, chamber music opportunities, and other events also crop up from time to time.

Extra concerts and trips do not have to be paid for as part of your yearly subscription, but may incur a cost in other ways (travel, accommodation, etc.).

Membership Fee

Our annual subscription is currently £180, or you can pay per monthly instalments. Please contact Deputy Treasurer Paul Grigg for more details.

Thanks to the generosity of our Friends, including members of the orchestra who pay over the odds, we are able to be flexible, so don’t stay away if the money is hard to find.

We can offer free places for music students, space permitting. There is usually room in the strings; wind and brass please enquire.
