Are you looking for a busy, fun London-based orchestra to join?
- Can you do Thursday evenings?
- Do you enjoy interesting, slightly ‘out there’ repertoire alongside old favourites?
- Do you have ABRSM Grade VIII, or equivalent experience?
- Do you enjoy meeting and socialising with people from all walks of life?
Sounds like you? Great! We’d love to hear from you. A positive attitude and willingness to learn and adapt quickly, with good sightreading, would be an advantage, particularly if you plan to take part in the ‘extra’ concerts outside our main series.
We prefer an on-the-job approach: instead of auditions for strings, you will be asked to sit with the section principal during a rehearsal as part of the evaluation process. We have no specific intake period, you can apply at any time of year.
Members are expected to attend the majority (>75%) of rehearsals for a given concert.
To find out more, contact Richard on or by telephone/post as on the About us page.
There are currently no vacancies in the wind and brass. To go on our dep list, or hear about when we do have a vacancy, contact Richard on or by telephone/post as on the About us page.
We usually hire in a harpist, percussion, keyboards and other specialist instruments on-the-day as required, but if you are a student or amateur looking for playing experience at the weekly rehearsals, we would be happy to hear from you.
Where and When
The nearest stations are Ealing Broadway (Central, District, main line) and South Ealing (Piccadilly); the 65 stops close by and there are many buses along Uxbridge Road, just a short walk away.
Parking is available on most streets from 7.30pm, but check signs as there are some restricted sections. There is no parking at the church itself; space permitting you can pull in temporarily to drop off bulky instruments then park elsewhere.
A large contingent seems to find their way to the King’s Arms in The Grove after rehearsals, we have a Christmas Party and usually a Summer Social, and curry nights, birthday dos and BBQs tend to crop up during the year.
We have a ‘Jaunt’ away from home most years, usually around a bank holiday weekend, to play informally and have fun outside the city. We also go abroad occasionally.
Extra concerts, chamber music opportunities and other events also crop up from time to time. ‘Extra’ concerts and trips do not have to be paid for as part of your yearly subscription, but may incur a cost in other ways (travel, accommodation etc.).
Our annual subscription is currently £160, or you can pay per concert.
Thanks to the generosity of our Friends, including members of the orchestra who pay over the odds, we are able to be flexible, so don’t stay away if the money is hard to find. ‘
We can offer free places for music students, space permitting. There is usually room in the strings; wind and brass please enquire.
