Who we are
An informal choir made up mainly of members of Ealing Symphony Orchestra. We enjoy singing a wide variety of music from Byrd and Bach to Poulenc and jazz. Our Choirmaster is Mel Crompton.
All voices welcome – we would be delighted to hear from you! Weekly rehearsals are Thursdays 6.30 – 7.30 at Ealing Green Church, with one or two longer ‘intensive’ rehearsals in the weeks before a concert. You don’t have to be a member of Ealing Symphony Orchestra to join, all are welcome.
While we don’t hold formal auditions, we do sing from sheet music and frequently try new pieces, so reading music (and a little experience in a choir) would be an advantage. Mel is an accomplished singing coach and includes in her rehearsals warmup exercises and proper vocal technique coaching, so don’t worry if you haven’t had any formal singing lessons.
We currently pay subscriptions on an informal basis to cover the hall hire and music costs.
If you would like to know more about the choir, or would like to come along and try us out, email Mel.
In 2015, Ealing Symphony Orchestra member Laura Rossi had her work Voices of Remembrance performed in Worthing for Remembrance Sunday. It was only the second ever live performance, with the Worthing Symphony Orchestra and Worthing Chamber Choir, and Vanessa Redgrave narrating. (Read about Laura and the piece here.)
Laura and John Gibbons very kindly invited any chorally-inclined members of the Orchestra along to come and sing in the choir for the piece. An enthusiastic contingent went along to sing, and The Voice Section was born!
